East/West Women’s Health represents the integration of all of my experience and expertise as both a Nurse-Midwife and an Acupuncturist. My goal is to help my patients achieve a sense of calm and balance so that they are better able to meet the challenges of pregnancy.
I bring 28 years of passion and commitment to women’s health and medicine. I retired from the Army Nurse Corps after 20 years during which time I earned my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, followed by my Masters of Science in Nursing in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Kentucky. All my time as a nurse in the Army was spent as a Labor and Delivery nurse and then as a Nurse-Midwife. After retiring from the Army as a Major in 1989, I was Director of the Nurse-Midwifery Service at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
In 1996, I helped start the first private Nurse-Midwife practice in San Antonio — Lone Star Nurse Midwives. That practice has grown into one of my proudest achievements. Lone Star Midwives offers women the best of both worlds … the midwifery philosophy of birth together with the safety of the hospital environment.
In 1998, as part of my lifelong passion for learning how to address the health needs of women in a holistic way, I earned a Master’s in Chinese Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, one of the most prestigious schools in the US. I graduated at the top of my class from AOMA in 2002. I am excited about the opportunity to devote myself exclusively to the practice of obstetrical acupuncture.
